what to expect
A FUN - FILLED FAMILY PORTRAIT SESSION
Relax. We’re going to have fun! My sessions are casual and relaxed — definitely not rushed. You and your family set the pace and tone. During your shoot I’ll combine gently posed shots along with capturing spontaneous, unguarded moments as they unfold — no forced smiles or awkward poses here. I also keep the goals we’ve agreed on during our pre-consult uppermost in mind.
Our session will generally last 30-45 minutes. This gives us plenty of time to capture the full range of your family story with no undo pressure on kids or parents. The casual tone of my shoots allows everyone to simply be themselves in front of the camera. That’s when the magic happens.
How It Works
Booking Your Session
Before You Book — Let’s chat! A quick initial phone call is the best way to get to know each other, see if we’re a good fit, and go over any pre-booking questions about the portrait process, available dates, and locations.
My Portrait Agreement is a convenient on- line form that gathers basic information about you and your family. It also details my studio policies, fees, and other info.
Your Retainer Payment is a non-refundable fee that officially confirms your session reservation. I make it easy to pay online via credit/debit card or check.
Your Session Confirmation includes your payment receipt and a copy of your signed Portrait Agreement.
Before Your Session
Your Pre-Session Consultation two to three weeks before your session is our time to plan your shoot, discuss your goals, and review options for products and decorating with your images.
A Session Reminder Email sent two to three days before your session is a helpful reminder of the date, time, and location of your session. I also provide a few tips and reminders to help your session go smoothly.
The day of your session is when the fun starts! I’ll initially get everyone comfortable with a few poses and shutter clicks, and then we let the session unfold. I'm always mindful of the goals we set during our pre-session planning.
After Your Session
A Sneak Peek of one of my favorite images from your session will debut on my studio Facebook, and Instagram pages.
Your images will be uploaded to a beautiful online gallery within two weeks. Now you can view your images, pick your favorites, and put together your order for prints, canvases, albums and more to showcase your new family portraits.
Your Family Portrait Products generally arrive within about six weeks of your order. It’s time to fall in love with your portraits all over again!

When do sessions typically take place?
A. Most outdoor sessions are scheduled 2-3 hours prior to sunset. Newborn home sessions typically start at 9:30am.
Q. Are digital images included in your package?
A. Yes. Number of images are specified in package details.
Q. How will I receive my images?
A. You will receive a link to an online gallery via email.
Q. Will you share previews after my session?
A. Yes. A preview from your session will be posted on Facebook and Instagram.
Q. How do I view and save my images on my computer?
A. Click on the gallery link that you received via email and open your gallery. Download all of your images at once by clicking on the download arrow on the upper right hand corner of your gallery.
Q. Can I share my images on social media?
A. Feel free to post any images that you wish! Giving credit to the photographer is appreciated, but not required.
Q. Can I share my gallery with friends and family?
A. Of course! You can send your gallery link out to anyone and everyone. The more the merrier! Keep in mind that anyone that receives your link will be able to download and/or print your images as well.
Q. Do you have a studio?
A. Yes, I have a home studio that can be used.
Q. Can I edit my photos?
A. No. Please do not add additional edits or Instagram filters to your images. All photos are hand edited by me. Jen Tyler Photography retains all copyright and may use images for marketing and portfolio purposes.
Q. Where is the best place to print my images?
A. I think the best (and most convenient) place for printing your images is directly though your gallery. Open your gallery and click on the shopping cart icon in the upper right hand corner of your gallery. From here you will be able to order your images in many different sizes. The prints come from a reputable photo lab at very reasonable prices.
Q. Is it ok if we bring our dog to our family session?
A. Yes, please mention this when planning your session. Some locations will not allow animals and we will need to plan accordingly.
Q. Do you offer mini sessions?
Q. What if it’s raining on my session date?
A. I will be watching the forecast and will be in touch with you prior to your session to confirm. If it looks like the weather will not cooperate, we can then discuss an alternative location or reschedule for a later date. There is no charge to reschedule your session based on weather. Please keep in mind that all rescheduled sessions are subject to availability.
Q. I am trying to print my images and I can’t find my print release. Where is it?
A. A print release is always included in the email with your gallery link. If you still can’t find, let me know and I will send you another one.
Q. Do you accept credit cards?
A. Yes. I use Stripe to process all credit card transactions.
Q. Do you collect a deposit?
A. Yes. A 50% deposit is due at the time of booking. The balance will be due on your session date. You will receive an invoice via email.
Q. What if I need to cancel or reschedule my session?
A. Life happens and sometimes there is a need to cancel or reschedule due to unexpected circumstances. Please provide as much notice as possible if you need to reschedule your session. Jen Tyler Photography may need to reschedule your session due to weather. Please note that there are specific cancellation policies for wedding services.
Working with Jen was fun, and such a relaxing way to spend an hour or two! She kept us moving from position to position which kept us energetic and produced natural expressions. The photos she took will be keepsakes we'll have for years and years.
